The Dutch midfielder is Manchester United's first choice to strengthen the midfield.

Sky Sports claims that

Manchester United

are close to an agreement to sign

Frenkie de Jong

with Barcelona.

Barcelona have reportedly agreed a € 65 million deal with Manchester United. Negotiations on the details are ongoing and there are still clauses that have not been agreed upon but personal terms are not expected to become a problem.

The Dutch midfielder played 46 games for Barcelona last season and has four years left on his contract with Barcelona. De Jong played for Ajax under new Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag and was part of the team that won the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup in the 2018-19 season, as well as reaching the Champions League semi-finals.

The 25-year-old midfielder has reportedly been one of Ten Hag's priorities and the club have made serious plans to sign him, although the negotiation process has been slow. With the departure of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, the Red Devils needed to strengthen their midfield and the presence of De Jong could make a big difference in the team.
