Luis Suarez is close to join River Plate
Former Barcelona star Luis Suarez is close to joining River Plate this summer in Argentina.
Suarez in the coming days will travel to Argentina to take part in medical and signs his contract. He wanted to stay in Europe but it seems River Plate has convinced him to change his mind.
Suarez has been linked with Fiorentina and Aston Villa in recent weeks. The 35-year-old Suarez left
Atletico Madridafter his contract expired.
Meanwhile, SPORT newspaper claimed on Thursday that Barcelona has approached Suarez over a potential transfer this summer if they fail to sign Robert Lewandowksi.
SPORT says that Barcelona asked the Uruguayan to wait until August before deciding on his next move but he decided that he does not intend to wait that long as he already has other offers. Suarez made 281 appearances and scored 194 goals for Barcelona during his six-year stint at the club.
Suarez scored 13 goals and provided 3 assists in 45 matches last season. He joined Atletico in 2020 and scored 34 goals in 83 matches for them. Former Liverpool star helped Atletico to win the La Liga title in 2021.
