Scholes takes aim at Edinson Cavani, who was a 'disgrace'

The Uruguayan's second season with the Old Trafford club was hard because he had a lot of fitness problems.

Paul Scholes

Manchester United

legend, called

Edinson Cavani

a "disgrace" and questioned his commitment during the 2021-22 season. The Uruguayan only scored two goals in 20 games for the Red Devils in all competitions during a tough season for the team.

The striker who used to play for

Paris Saint-Germain

has a contract that ends next month, and it has already been decided that he will not be given new terms. Cavani had a successful first season at

Old Trafford

, scoring 17 goals. This made it seem smart for the club to extend his contract by one year last summer.

But he hasn't played as much in his second season because he got hurt, lost his form, and Cristiano Ronaldo joined the team in the summer.

On the other hand, Scholes thinks that Cavani wasn't always fully committed to the team. As an example, he points out that Cavani wasn't in the team when they lost to Middlesbrough in the

FA Cup

in February.

The former England midfielder thinks that Cavani's situation is an excellent example of how bad United's season was. United finished sixth in the Premier League.

Scholes also wonders if the club's leaders will give the new manager Erik ten Hag the support he needs to turn things around. "He told Premier League Productions, "I think Cavani was a disgrace this year because he barely played."

"He didn't play in the game against Middlesbrough because he had to get back to where he was. Since that game against Middlesbrough, I heard last night that United has only won 5 of 18 games or something.

"It's embarrassing, and now this manager, Ten Hag, needs help. Who will help him with that? We don't know why the club upstairs is  still a bit of a mess." The 35-year-old has been linked with a move to Spain, and South American clubs are also thought to be interested in a deal.
