The Blues only used the midfielder 12 times in the Premier League before sending him on a series of loans.

Danny Drinkwater

has apologized to

Chelsea

fans for not living up to their expectations during his five terrible years with the club.

Drinkwater joined the Chelsea team in 2017 after playing a great role in

Leicester City

's surprise win of the

Premier League title

the year before.

The midfielder couldn't keep up that level of play with the Blues, so he was loaned out to other teams to use up the rest of his contract. After playing for

Reading

in the Championship in 2021–22, he is now a free agent and has left Chelsea. The three-time England international went on Instagram to talk about how disappointed he was with how his Chelsea career turned out. He said that injuries and how he was treated at the club kept him from doing his best.

"The end of my time at Chelsea has come... Honestly, it feels very strange to write this, "He put words on paper. There is no doubt that I, the club, and the fans are all very upset about how things turned out.

"I could give a long list of excuses, like injuries, how I've been treated, mistakes I've made, problems with the field, not getting enough game time, etc., but I wouldn't and can't change what's happened.
