Sat 21 May 2022 | 11:43

The Bayern Munich star will wear the USMNT jersey from now on.

Bayern Munich

young star

Malik Tillman

has been called up to the

US

national team for the first time.

The 19-year-old star has made seven appearances for Bayern Munich this season and has only featured in one game from the start. Tillman has previously played for Germany in all age levels and played four games for the German Under-21 national team in March. However, he announced that he had changed his allegiance from German to American, the country where his father was born and will join his team for the first time on Friday.

Greg Berhalter's 27-man roster includes 10 MLS players and no mention of Gaga Slonina, who recently turned down the  Poland call-up.

Tillman wrote on his instagram:

"My heart is American. This country has given me and my family all the opportunities I could ask for.

"It's pushed me and supported me through good and bad. I understand the privilege of wearing the badge, and the only time I'll put my head down is to kiss it.

"America is home and that's who I'm going to represent."

The United States will face Morocco and Uruguay in friendlies and then play in the Concacaf Nation League against Grenada and El Salvador. They are grouped in the World Cup with England, Iran and one of the countries from Wales, Scotland or Ukraine.
