Wed 18 May 2022 | 13:50

The Rossoneri legend talked about the secret behind the club’s defence, from Mike Maignan to Theo Hernandez.

Milan

need only one point to win the

Serie A

title and their defence has played a key role in their victories this season.

Milan have just conceded six goals since February. Moreover, the became the less-beaten defence in top five leagues in Europe since March.

“Everyone has a different defending style. My defenders used to move together. These Milan players defend individually,”

Mauro Tassotti

told

La Gazzetta dello Sport

newspaper.

“They accept one vs. one situations, they take risks to get a numerical advantage in the middle. They have surprised me. Everyone has improved so much.”

He was quizzed whether Pierre Kalulu is the Rossoneri’s most surprising defender.

“He is, he could have suffered the absence of a player like Simon Kjaer, the leader of the defensive department, but he has always done really well. He is fast and Milan’s playing style helps him emerge,”

said Tassotti.

“Maignan has great responsibility. He doesn’t only make saves, but he is involved in the play.

“Fikayo Tomori is so good. He is quick and aggressive, he reminds me of [Pietro] Vierchowod.

“Davide Calabria? I’ve always followed him and I appreciate his continuous development. It’s important to have a product of the academy in the first team. He has had a great season and deserves to be considered for the national team.”

Theo Hernandez has been pulling off impressive displays this season and met the back of the net in their battle against Atalanta on Sunday.

“Congratulations to the club for getting him from Real Madrid, where he was a reserve,”

said Tassotti.

“He has worked hard to improve and has unique characteristics. What he did on Sunday, it’s something that only a few players can do.

“These are things that Messi or Weah could do. An incredible mix of power and technique.

“I was at San Siro on Sunday, and the atmosphere was incredible. The unity between the team and the fans is unique and their desire to win remembers me of the great Milan teams of the past. They deserve it after so many difficult years.”
