Luis Suarez’s spell at Atletico Madrid is coming to an end

The

Atletico Madrid

stint of

Luis Suarez

is coming to an end. He led

Los Rojiblancos

to their second league triumph under Diego Simeone, seven years after the first, after joining the city from Barcelona last season.

His 13 goals are his lowest total since arriving in Europe, although that could be said for much of the Atletico Madrid team. As

Mundo Deportivo

reported ahead of Atleti's final home game of the season, manager

Diego Simeone

stated that Suarez would be going but that the decision had been made for some time.

"In the middle of November, I had a conversation with Luis. A long, hard, honest conversation in which both parties could discuss what they saw ahead and in the present and what was required of him to compete."

"Everything we mentioned was respected from that conversation till now, and that doesn't happen very frequently." As a result, I am grateful to Luis Suarez, who was fantastic last season and continues to be our goal scorer this season. He'll play tomorrow, and I always say 'chapeau' to guys that act like Luis."

In terms of character, Simeone and Suarez always seemed like a combination made in heaven, and it was. After his historic league victory last year, the Uruguayan will leave Wanda Metropolitano with his head high.

Suarez has been requested by Atletico Madrid fans to be honored with a plaque outside the stadium, even though he does not usually qualify.
