The Milan star’s contract is due to reach its end in the summer but Stefano Pioli would like the player to remain put.

Stefano Pioli

is interested in keeping the services of

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

, who he named "a champion with a capital C", but he is aware that the 40-year-old is the one to make the final decision.

The star striker is pulling off impressive performances at the age of 40, but his contract is due to expire when the season ends.

Milan

are sitting on top of the

Serie A

table with only one game left for them against Atalanta on Sunday, but their lead from

Inter

is only two points.

If Milan win or draw the game and Inter fail to vanquish Cagliari, they will get their first title in 11 years.

Ibra had a crucial role in the title win 11 years ago and came back for a second one in 2020.

He has been struggling with injuries and started only 11 matches in Serie A, with 22 appearances in total. However, he met the back of the net eight times and the club manager is hoping he stays for the next season.

"No, I don't think so,

" Pioli replied when he was quizzed in a news conference whether Ibrahimovic would be playing at San Siro for Milan for the final time on Sunday.

"There are two games to go. Last at San Siro? I hope not, he is a champion with a capital C."

Pioli, however, will respect Ibrahimovic’s decision, no matter what.

He added:

"My opinion of him is immeasurable.

"I hope that we don't lose him, but Zlatan has the intelligence and the maturity necessary to understand what will be in his future.

"Now Sunday's match is as important for him as it is for all of us, it is useless to talk about his future and our future now.

The Rossoneri have won the last two matches they had against Atalanta. However, Atalanta have been enjoying a run of seven unbeaten away matches in Serie A against Milan, keeping five clean sheets.
