Madrid Open director reveals Nadal's request about Real Madrid
Tennis star Rafael Nadal has requested that his opening match at the Madrid Open does not clash with Real Madrid's match.
Madrid Open tournament director and world No 114 Feliciano Lopez have revealed that Nadal has requested not to play on Wednesday evening due to Real Madrid's
Champions Leaguesemi-final against
Manchester City.
"Nadal asked us that when Madrid played the Champions League semi-finals that we not play him,"
Lopez said.
"He likes to play during the day, so that the ball bounces higher. There are [Spanish] tennis players who are not from Madrid. David Ferrer is not from Madrid. Tommy Robredo and Marc Lopez are from Barcelona, Sergi Bruguera is very much from Barcelona… it's very hard to be an anti-Madridista!”
The 21-time grand slam winner is a big supporter of
Real Madridand was invited to take an honorary kick-off before they wrapped up their 35th league title with a 4-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday.
“It has been a long time since I've been to the Bernabeu and it is a game I'd like to go to. Let's see if I can escape to see the game against Manchester City.”
Nadal said on Saturday.
Nadal will face Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic in the round of 32 of the Madrid Open tournament on Wednesday.
Real Madrid lost 4-3 in the first leg of semi final against Guardiola's side.
