Muller: Villarreal draw very difficult to accept

Tue 12 April 2022 | 21:37

Villarreal scored an 88th-minute equaliser through the substitute Samu Chukwueze to snatch a stunning 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich and advance to the semi-finals.

Villareal

qualified for the semifinals with a 2-1 aggregate score, but

Thomas Muller

after the game said

Bayern

didn’t deserve to be eliminated from the Champions League, and accepting this result is very difficult.

Muller told Amazon Prime:

“If you take just this game into account, without the first game, we should have gone through convincingly, It’s difficult to accept this; I don’t know what to say.

"It's extremely bitter that we conceded a goal towards the end despite the good performance. We played a good game. We have to blame ourselves for only scoring one goal. The course of the game did not deserve a 1-1 result.

"We pushed and pushed right from the start. If you take just this game into account, without the first game, we should have gone through convincingly. It's difficult to accept this; I don't know what to say."

Villareal will face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League semi-final if they are to go through against Benfica in Wednesday's second leg. Unai Emery's side eliminated Juventus in the last round.
