I don't see myself away from Manchester United - De Gea

David de Gea’s impressive form has boosted Manchester United this season and he is keen on remaining still for a longer time.

David de Gea

hinted that he may play for

Manchester United

for the remainder of his career. He made the move to the club in 2011 from

Atletico Madrid

, who United will lock horns with in the

Champions League

Round of 16, with the first leg coming on Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano.

De Gea has established himself from a young prospect to one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.

Although his form appeared to dip in the last few years, he has returned to his fine form this season.

As per reports from Opta data, the only other keeper to have prevented more goals than De Gea in the Premier League is Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Wednesday’s battle will be De Gea’s first game against Atletico after he left them 10 years ago.

"

I like the fact I was born in Madrid, but at the end of the day, it's just a city,"

he told

UEFA

.

"Now I feel as if I'm from Manchester. I just feel like anyone else from Manchester. Where you are loved and welcomed is your home.

"I've been here for many years and, obviously, anything can happen in life, in the world of football, but honestly I don't see myself away from Manchester United.

"Of course, I'm going back home [for this tie], I'm going back to the club that gave me the opportunity to be who I am today. But this is just another match.

"Everyone wants to play well, we want to win, it is a Champions League match. Obviously, I wish Atletico all the best, but I don't know whether the fact we're playing them is a good or bad omen.

"Everyone is going there to win, especially me."

De Gea’s deal with United will reach its end in June next year, though they have a chance to extend his for another 12 months.

He hinted that he is keen on staying beyond his contract expiration. De Gea will be among the first picks by Ralf Rangnick for the first leg of the clash against Atletico.
