Aubameyang pens with Barcelona after Arsenal exit

Wed 02 February 2022 | 11:34

The Gabon international has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with Barcelona after he agreed to have a pay-cut.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

has put pen to paper with

Barcelona

on a free transfer after he terminated his contract with

Arsenal

by mutual consent on Tuesday.

At first, there was going to be a loan deal, but the Blaugrana were not able to match his £340,000 per week salary. Therefore, the Gunners agreed to let him leave as a free agent and join the

La Liga

side.

The 32-year-old trained with the Catalans before the deal was finalized and his arrival has now been formally announced. He signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.

"

FC Barcelona and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have reached an agreement for the player to join the club after the striker terminated his contract with Arsenal FC,"

a statement on the Blaugrana's official website reads.

"The player will sign a contract until 30 June 2025 with an option to agree departure on 30 June 2023 and his buy out clause will be set at 100 million euros.

"Shortly the Club will provide details of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's presentation as a first team player."

He first made a move to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund on a fee of £56 million ($76m) in 2018. Aubameyang met the target 92 times in 163 matches for his side. Two of those goals came in the victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final in 2020. Moreover, he shares two Premier League Golden Boots with the Gunners.

However, under the Reign of Mikel Arteta, he fell out of favor. He was no longer the captain of the team and Arteta exiled him from his plans as he breached a disciplinary rule. His last game was against Everton on December 6.

He may make his debut for Barcelona when they lock horns with Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
