On Tuesday, the

Premier League

side announced that the player had been released from his deal, which was due to reach its end when the next season ended.

Arsenal’s decision made it possible for the player to pen a six-month deal with the La Liga side.

A statement from the Gunners read in part:

"Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the club by mutual agreement.

"We wish Auba all the best for the next chapter in his career and thank him for his contribution to the club."

The 32-year-old made a move to Arsenal in 2022 and during his first full season in England, he shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

He found the target twice when Arsenal vanquished Chelsea in the FA Cup final of 2019-20 and met the back of the net 92 times in 162 games for the club.

However, the player was no longer the captain when Mikel Arteta stripped him of that role in December due to a disciplinary breach.

The Arsenal manager dropped him from the squad after taking away his captaincy, with the Gabon international’s last game coming in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Everton on December 6.

Aubameyang met the target four times in 14 matches in the Premier League this season.
