After the date was changed twice due to the climate and Covid-19 problems, the tournament finally started at Olembe Stadium on Sunday.

Burkina Faso scored the opener and took the lead in their first clash in Group A, courtesy of Gustavo Sangare’s strike in the 24th minute.

Bertrand Traore’s header was cleared off the line when building up for the first goal, but he gifted a penalty for a trip on Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Aboubakar netted the penalty after a lengthy VAR check. The Cameroon captain scored another goal eight minutes later following Issoufou Dayo sliding in on Nouhou Tolo for another penalty.

Cameroon started the tournament on the right foot, following their victory in their first game of Group A.
