The Senegal legendary player talked about the chances his country have in the 2021 AFCON and going against Egypt in the World Cup qualifiers for 2022.

The 2021

Africa Cup of Nations

will start tomorrow in Cameroon and

Henri Camara

talked about his AFCON record against

Egypt

.

The

Senegal

star recalled the 2006 AFCON, where he went against the Pharaohs only to be defeated 2-1 to the champions. He insisted that the hosts won the game unfairly.

I

<em>

remember the semi-final against Egypt in 2006, Egypt was the host country, we were unfairly treated by the Cameroonian referee, who did not award us a penalty but awarded one to them against me,”

the former West Ham United man told

ONTime Sport TV

.

The match in 2000 against Egypt was the most difficult. I faced them several times, including once in 1999 and we were in control of the match, but the Pharaohs won,

” he added.

When playing for his country, the 44-year-old encountered Egypt on five occasions, winning just one of them. However, he is confident that times have changed and Senegal are capable of beating Egypt. He even went on to say that he hopes to lock horns with them in the final round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

“At the present time, no team is a cause of concern to us other than Morocco and Algeria. I don’t see any team stronger than us. I’d prefer to play Egypt in the final stage of the World Cup qualifiers, because they would be the easiest match for us. This current generation is better than Egypt,”

he explained.

Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the world, coming after Messi, Ronaldo and Lewandowski,”

he continued.

Camara then spoke about European clubs’ disrespectful manner regarding the way they treated AFCON and the players. He believes that players should speak up when it comes to these matters.

“African players should raise their voice and defend the Africa Cup of Nations. I was doing my best to play for my country, and would sometimes pretend to be injured with my team in order to be more focused with my country,”

he concluded.
