Sat 08 January 2022 | 14:50

The Nigeria national team skipper talked about featuring against Egypt’s Mohamed Salah in the AFCON.

The 2021

Africa Cup of Nations

will start tomorrow in Cameroon and will continue until February 6.

Nigeria

were drawn in Group D that includes Guinea-Bissau, Sudan and seven-time African champions Egypt.

Their first game is due on January 11 and it is going to be against the Pharaohs, with

Liverpool

star

Mohamed Salah

leading.

The Reds player has been running on a rich vein of form this season, having netted 23 goals in 26 games across the competitions. He was even included in the final three-man list for FIFA’s The Best Award.

Notwithstanding the difficulty of the games they are about to have, Super Eagles centre back

William Troost-Ekong

believes they are able to contain the two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner.

I hope he stays as far away from us and our goal as possible,”

the Watford defender told

BBC’s Football Focus

.

This season he’s obviously been on fire and we all know how good he is, but at the same time I’m very confident in our team,”

he added.
