Three Iranian clubs barred from Asian Champions League

The AFC has announced that three Iranian clubs do not have the necessary conditions to participate in the َAFC Champions League.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced that

Persepolis FC


Esteghlal FC

and Gol Gohar Sirjan FC have been banned from participating in the 2022

AFC Champions League


ECB (independent Entry Control Body) determined that according to clauses 14.4 and 14.5 of the AFC Club Licensing Regulations, three clubs from the Islamic Republic of Iran have not been able to qualify and have been barred from competing.

The ECB has also stated that the three clubs have failed to comply with Article 3.1 and 3.2 and thus have not received the license to participate in the AFC Champions League 2022.

Therefore, the three clubs of Persepolis, Esteghlal and Gol Gohar Sirjan declared ineligible to participate in the competitions. Sepahan FC and Foolad FC are two clubs from the Islamic Republic of Iran that were able to qualify for the AFC and obtain a license to participate in competitions.
