Antonio Cassano, a former Inter, Milan, Roma, and Sampdoria forward, has been hospitalized with COVID-19 struggles.

After 400

Serie A

matches and 112 goals, the 39-year-old hung up his boots in 2018.

Cassano's wife,

Carolina Marcialis

, verified on social media that he contracted the COVID-19 during the holidays and was in quarantine at home.

It had been frequently speculated that Cassano had not been immunized, but Marcialis revealed on Instagram Stories that he had had two shots but had not yet taken the booster dose.

According to Genova Today, Il Messaggero, and other reports, Cassano's symptoms have worsened in recent days, and he is now an in-patient in Genoa's San Martino hospital.

Antonio is in hospital and doing well,"

Marcialis posted on Instagram Stories.

He is not the first former footballer hospitalized due to COVID-19 issues; Cassano's Roma teammate

Daniele De Rossi

required supplementary oxygen in April 2021.
