Gerrard is considering options to strengthen his team in the winter.
Steven Gerrard intends to strengthenAston Villa
's attack by attractingRoberto Firmino
Roberto Firmino is currently on the bench and Jurgen Klopp prefers Diogo Jota. Coutinho also sits on the bench at Barca and does not get much opportunity to play. Now former Aston Villa player Tony Cascarino has claimed that Gerrard wants to seize the opportunity and sign both players.
He told talkSport:
"It’s only my gut feeling – I think Aston Villa will go for one big Liverpool player, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Firmino left and went to Villa.
"I know people will be saying, 'hang on, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool would never let him go', but Firmino has been a sub way too often."
Asked about Coutinho's situation, Cascarino added:
"He might think he knows how to get the best out of him. I’m talking that level of transfer. A player at the very top end who has played for the biggest clubs, and been successful. I think that’s where Gerrard’s coming from.
"If he’s talking about exciting the Villa fans, he’s not talking about someone coming out of the Championship or maybe a mid-table Premier League team to come to the club."
Firmino, 30, has shown no interest in leaving the club despite his situation at Anfield. Coutinho will also be an expensive purchase for Aston Villa and a lot of money will have to be spent to attract him.
