Foden’s goal extended City’s run to eight points on top of the table

The City will finish this year sitting top of the Premier League table with eight points in their advantage after vanquishing Brentford 1-0 courtesy of Phil Foden’s goal.

Phil Foden

met the back of the net in

Manchester City

’s victory over

Brentford

and helped his side extend their winning run to 10 games in a row.

The City had netted 17 goals in their last three games in the league but were made to work hard against Brentford in their last match of 2021.

Kevin De Bruyne

sent Foden on his way to secure a victory for the Citizens after 16 minutes. Some of City’s goals were disallowed in the second half but after

Liverpool

’s defeat at the hands of Leicester City and Chelsea’s draw with Brighton helped them move further clear on the table.

Brentford, who did not have some of his players available due to Covid-19, suspension and injuries, had Ederson work hard to pull off some saves.

Pep Guardiola

hailed De Bruyne and called him “exceptional” and “unique” before this game following his fine assist for Foden’s strike. After his move to City in 2015, De Bruyne has provided 78 assists, which is 27 more than any other one in that period.

The City will go against Arsenal first in 2022 but Mikel Arteta will not be present due to his positive Covid-19 test.
