Jorginho backs the five-substitution rule

Wed 29 December 2021 | 22:27

Chelsea’s Jorginho has criticized the Premier League for going back to three substitutions.

Chelsea’s

high-profile midfielder

Jorginho

has talked about the

Premier League’s

decision, saying that bringing the substitutions back to three is not a wise move, because it would damage the players, and increase the number of injuries, and eventually ends up decreasing the viewers of the league and thinks that having five substitutions was a good idea.

The five substitutions rule was introduced in 2020 following the outbreak of Covid-19 to prevent the players from getting injured under the pressure of the calendar.

“It’s very hard, because we don’t have time to rest. We need to play every three days and we have just three subs and that’s insane we don’t go for five,”

Jorginho told beIN Sports.

“In my opinion it’s just too much. We should do something about it, because if we keep going like this, we’ll just have more players injured and maybe the quality of the game will go down, so that’s not the best for entertainment.

“Maybe the English should look at that.”

FIFA

and

UEFA

are ready to make the five substitutions a permanent rule, and most of the top European competitions will be having five substitutions, but Premier League has decided to go back to three substitutions.
