Dembele’s contract talks with Barcelona halted

Wed 29 December 2021 | 22:16

The latest round of contract negotiations between Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona have come to a stalemate, allowing the Frenchman to explore his options with other clubs in the coming months.

Dembele

is reaching the end of his contract, and although

Barcelona

has always said publicly that the winger is interested in extending his contract, Dembele himself has frequently put off discussions about a new contract.

Barcelona intended to get a response from Dembele before the start of the new year.

Gerard Romero

asserts that they have had one, but it is not the one they expected.

According to the Spanish publication

AS

, Barcelona's intention to reduce Dembele's salary has irritated both Dembele and his manager. While the winger is willing to take a pay reduction to improve the club's finances, he is not pleased with the decision to spend £55 million and pay some expensive salary to recruit

Manchester City

striker

Ferran Torres

.

As a result, the 24-year-old feels that the money is available, and his agent has been informed of clubs willing to offer him a substantially greater wage, which has led to the breakdown in negotiations.

To avoid letting Dembele walk away for nothing, Barcelona is set to begin negotiations to sell the striker in January.

Dembele will have plenty of suitors. He has been linked with

Liverpool

and

Manchester United

, while

Bayern Munich

are said to be keeping tabs on the situation because of their ongoing discussions with

Kingsley Coman

, who Barcelona are interested in signing.
