in 2007 and he is set to leave the club as an undisputed club legend.
The left-back has appeared in 500 matches for Los Blancos across all competitions, meeting the back of the net 38 times and contributing 101 assists – staggering numbers for a defender who played in a back four. He has contributed to winning many major trophies as well, with fiveLa Liga
titles, four Champions Leagues and four Club World Cups.
Marcelo has recently become a more marginal player for the club, however. Given the injuries, poor form and Ferland Mendy’s arrival has limited his game time in the last few seasons, with the Brazilian playing in only 16 matches in La Liga in the 2020-21 season.
According to reports from
, the defender has limited days left in Spanish as his contract is due to expire in the summer.
Real Madrid do not plan to extend his contract with a new offer and he is said to be considering returning to his boyhood clubFluminense
, whom he departed in 2007 to make a move to Real Madrid.
The 33-year-old will be keen on leaving the club on a high and should he keep his rich form, he has a good chance of doing that.
Real Madrid are leading the La Liga table, with eight points in their advantage from Sevilla who sit second, having been defeated only once in the first 16 games. They also made their way to the Round of 16, securing a place on top of their group with a 2-0 win against Inter.
