Barcelona, Chelsea and Porto goalkeepers under Lazio's radar

Wed 08 December 2021 | 13:18

Sarri is not satisfied with the performance of his goalkeepers in the new season.

According to reports,

Lazio

intends to attract a new goalie for next season and solve the problem in this position.

Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri put Pepe Reina on the bench against Sampdoria and sent Thomas Strakosha in the field, who also performed well. The two goalkeepers will be in the team until the end of the season, but Sarri wants to solve the problem in general.

The Spanish veteran  was recruited to the team in 2020 as a backup for Albanian goalkeeper. After some Lazio players, including the first goalkeeper, infected with Covid-19, Reina entered the goal and, considering his history of working with Sarri in Napoli, the Italian coach preferred to keep him for this season as well. However, Reina's performance has dropped significantly over the past month, and Strakosha has been more stable than him.

However, the contracts of both goalkeepers will expire at the end of the season. The 26-year-old goalkeeper does not want to extend and wants to move to the Premier League, and on the other hand, the club is happy with him leaving. However, Reina has a contract that will be extended for another season if Lazio qualifies for European competitions, and it is possible that Reina will be in the team as a backup.

Three goalkeepers are on Lazio's radar for next season. Kepa Arrizabalaga is one of the options who is on the bench at

Chelsea

but has a high salary.

Barcelona

second goalkeeper Norberto Neto is another option for Lazio and Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa is the third option for the team. However, Costa has a contract with the club until 2026 and his transfer will be difficult.
