England manager Southgate signs new three-year contract

The English FA has guaranteed Southgate’s stay until after the 2024 European Championships.

Gareth Southgate was appointed as England’s manager after Sam Allardyce’s resignation in September 2016. The former Middlesbrough boss managed to take England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. The Three Lions also reached the

final

of the Euro 2020, where they were defeated by Italy.

On Monday, the English FA

confirmed

they reached an agreement with Southgate over a new three-year deal.

“It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team,” Southgate said after signing the new contract,"

Southgate said after signing the new deal.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board for their support, and of course the players and support team for their hard work.

“We have a great opportunity in front of us and I know they and the fans are all excited about what this squad could achieve in future.”

England

are looking to end their long-running trophy drought under the stewardship of Southgate. The Three Lions are already qualified for the next year's World Cup and are considered among the top favourites for the trophy.
