Fri 19 November 2021 | 20:52

Thomas Muller has become the first outfield player to reach 600 appearances for Bayern Munich since the establishment of the Bundesliga in 1963.

The

Bayern Munich

midfielder marked his 600th appearance for the Bavarian club after featuring against

Augsburg

on Friday night.

Muller

came through Bayern's youth system and made his Bundesliga debut in August 2008, however, he only played four games out of 34 that season.

Muller's rise started after the appointment of

Louis van Gaal

as a coach, and he has missed just 29 Bundesliga matches since the start of the 2009-10 season, making him the only player to feature in at least 28 matches in every season during that time.

Friday's game against Augsburg was his 395th in the Bundesliga, a record held by no one since his debut. Despite his age, Muller's status and influence show no signs of fading.

He has played in 128 games in the Champions League as well as 60 appearances in DFB-Pokal. There are also 17 more games in other competitions.

He has been directly involved in 402 goals in his previous 599 games, including 220 goals and 182 assists.

Muller, 32, has his eyes on Bayern Munich goalkeeper

Sepp Maier

's all-time appearance record of 700.
