Italy must avoid anxiety against Northern Ireland - Mancini

Sun 14 November 2021 | 18:51

The Italy head coach revealed that Sandro Tonali may be in the starting XI in their clash against Northern Ireland, but they should ‘avoid the same level of anxiety’ that has affected them in their clash against Switzerland.

If

Italy

had vanquished

Switzerland

on Friday, a point would have been enough for them, but they were held to a 1-1 draw, as

Jorginho

scored an equalizer during the last-minute penalty.

We were a little too anxious against Switzerland,”

Roberto Mancini

told

RAI Sport

.

“There’s going to be even more pressure in Northern Ireland, but it is important that we avoid the same level of anxiety.”

The Azzurri are dealing with a lot of injury setbacks, as Ciro Immobile, Nicolo Zaniolo, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Alessandro Bastoni, Giorgio Chiellini, Cristiano Biraghi and Salvatore Sirigu are all out of action.

Reports claim that the Azzurri tactician plans to change his tactics to use a False 9 after Andrea Belotti had a hard time during Switzerland clash.

“It doesn’t matter if we play with a False 9 or a centre-forward, it’s about the mentality.”

There may also be some changes in midfield, with Sandro Tonali coming in for Manuel Locatelli.

“Tonali has improved a great deal and could start. Barella has recovered, he is feeling in better shape now than when he played against Switzerland.”
