Santos denied similarities between Portugal & Brazil

The Portuguese coach opposes comparing his team to Brazil.

Portugal

coach Fernando Santos has claimed that there is no similarity between them and

Brazil

after securing his team's promotion to the 2022 World Cup.

Brazil secured their place in the World Cup with a 1-0 victory over

Colombia

on Thursday, and they won 11 of their 12 qualifying matches and were unbeaten. Although their closest rival, Argentina, are six points behind them, fans criticize Tite for his team's style of play. Portugal has also been criticized by fans for similar reasons, with a 0-0 draw against the Republic of Ireland making things more difficult for them. Hence, Brazil and Portugal are compared to each other, but from Santos' point of view, this comparison is not appropriate.

He told reporters:

"The idea cannot be to play for a draw. The two teams will try to win the game. That's what I think," said Santos.

"I don't think it will be a game of patience. No team will play crazy, not even Serbia who need to win will play like that.

"But Serbia always play to win. They won't be completely unbalanced. If they get unbalanced, they are taking more risks.

"The two teams have great ability, but I believe Portugal will win the game."
