Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes the referee’s decisions were against his side as the Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat against West Ham on Sunday.
opened the scoring after five minutes when
Pablo Fornals
sent a corner in and
Alisson
punched the ball into his own goal as he was under pressure from
Angelo Ogbonna
.
Klopp claimed Alisson was fouled, but despite a lot of protest from Liverpool players, VAR determined that the goal would stand and there was no foul.
Speaking after the game, The Reds' boss was not happy with the refereeing decisions during the game.
"Key moments, obviously. I think the goals, it's clear. Some situations, they have to go another way,"
he told
Sky Sportafter the game
.
"I think the first goal is a foul on the goalkeeper. I don't know what players exactly have to do to get a foul on the goalie. He goes against Ali's arm, so how can he catch the ball? Somebody pulls his arm away. To me, it makes no sense."
He continued
: "There was only two West Ham players [in front of Alisson] we cannot clear them. If the goalkeeper takes them away that it's probably a penalty so what can you do?
"That's why the goalie is protected."
"I know people will say 'he's looking for excuses'. I'm not. I'm completely calm. I don't think we are too good to lose football games. I accept that, obviously.
"You just need a normal decision - not for one, not the other - a normal decision for a ref and he didn't do that."
The German coach also claimed
Aaron Cresswell
should have been sent off the pitch for a challenge on
Jordan Henderson
.
"It's the typical excuse, probably, VAR says it's not clear and obvious. I don't know what you need in this situation,"
he said
"Cresswell - I'm not sure how to use the right vocabulary - but for me, that's a reckless challenge and even if he touched the ball before you cannot go like this, anything can happen. You have to control your body."
