Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes admits his side’s Champions League clash with Atalanta will be a tough game but they are aiming to win.
Despite joiningManchester United
in his native Portugal,
spent several years in Serie A, first withNovara
and later withUdinese
seven times, six in the league and once in the Coppa Italia, while he was in Italy.
When asked about the Bergamo-based side, Fernandes praised their spirit and recent development.
“It will be a tough game, we want to win the game, we want to be focused for tomorrow,”
said at a pre-match press conference
The Red Devils are currently sitting at the top of Group F after back-to-back wins against Villarreal and Atalanta in their two home fixtures.
“We know they have strong players that can create trouble for us. I think Muriel and Zapata are both very important, regardless of who plays,”
Fernandes continued, always speaking in Italian
“They are strong because they are a solid team. That’s their strength. Their union, their grit, their desire, that’s their strong point. Five years ago nobody could believe Atalanta would reach this point.”
United head into the match after an impressive 3-0 win overTottenham Hotspur
at the weekend and
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
needs to beat Atalanta to ensure his long-term future.
“That belief was there before the game against Liverpool. Both games are the past, doesn’t change anything for us,”
“The reaction from the players was good, it is always difficult to handle a loss against biggest rivals. We let (the fans) down that time, but that is the past. We focused on Tottenham, now we must forget that win and think about what we can do against Atalanta.”
