Lionel Messi was hauled off at the half-time break during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 victory over Lille on Friday.

The Argentinean striker was viewed as a major doubt to feature at all this evening, having been forced to sit out training over the last few days.

After feeling discomfort throughout the opening 45 minutes against

Mauricio Pochettino

decided to replace his compatriot with

Mauro Icardi

as a precaution.

The former

captain is yet to get off the mark in Ligue 1 since making the move to Paris in the summer, and struggled in his efforts to open his account against Lille.

Messi tried to combine with his teammates in the final third and had the chance to score with a freekick just outside Lille's box before the interval, but he sent the ball just wide.

The 34-year-old has failed to score a single Ligue 1 goal in five matches since joining the French giants from Barcelona on a free transfer in August.

His 15 shots is the most of any player yet to score in Ligue 1 this term.
