Al Sadd secured their second Amir Cup title in a row by winning a thrilling final on penalties.

Al Sadd faced Al Rayyan in the final of this year’s Amir Cup at Al Thumama Stadium. The Wolves, who were on a six-match winning streak before the game, pushed for the opening goal early on. However, Al Rayyan managed to score the first goal of the night from the penalty spot.

Yacine Brahimi

converted a controversial spot-kick for his side just before the half-time whistle.

Al Sadd were quick in their efforts to get the equalizer in the second half. The Wolves were awarded a penalty kick by VAR just before the hour-mark, which was scored by Santi Cazorla. Al Rayyan had the chance to score the winner five minutes later, but James Rodriguez’s brilliant shot was just off the target.

Another penalty call for Al Sadd was set to decide the game in the extra time, but the referee changed his mind upon reviewing the incident.

Al-Sadd continued to attack throughout the extra time, but the game was destined to be decided by the penalties.

Jung Woo-Young scored the winning penalty for Al Sadd after Saad Al Dosari saved Shoja Khalilzadeh’s penalty. The victory marks Xavi Hernandez’s seventh title with the Wolves and his second Amir Cup triumph.

Having won all of their previous six league games this season, Al Sadd will face
