The Spanish star will be away from the field for a while again.
have confirmed that midfielder Marcus Llorente has been ruled out of last night's defeat to Liverpool with an injury.
The 26-year-old midfielder suffered an injury on October 2 during Atletico's 2-0 win over Barcelona and was unable to play in Spain's recent World Cup qualifiers. He was not prepared to start the match for Atletico during last night's defeat to Liverpool and came on as a substitute in the final ten minutes.
But it seems that Simeone's decision has aggravated his injury and now he has to be away from the field for a while again.
A statement on Atleti's official website on Wednesday read:
"Marcos Llorente has suffered a relapse in the muscle injury he suffered in his right thigh.
"The player has undergone tests at the University of Navarra Clinic, in which it has been detected that the scar from his previous injury had partially opened.
"At the end of Tuesday's game against Liverpool, the player expressed discomfort to the club's medical services in the same area where he had suffered his injury.
"Today he will begin medical and physiotherapy treatment and will soon resume the rehabilitation process. His return to competition is pending evolution."
Llorente is one of Atletico's most important players and only Jan Oblak is more than him this season.
