I would give Benzema the Ballon d’Or - Zinedine Zidane

Former Real Madrid boss backs the French star to win the award for the best player of the year.

Last week, the list of nominees for the prestigious 2021 Ballon d'Or was announced, and many believe that the award should be presented for the seventh time to the Argentine superstar of Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi.

Others believe that Chelsea midfielders N'Golo Kante and Jorginho are amongst the main contenders to win the award, especially since Jorginho managed to win the Euro 2020 title with Italy and the Champions league with Chelsea.

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has also a lot of chance to win the award. The polish striker broke Gerd Muller’s record for the most goals in a single Bundesliga season last year and has been a great impact in the Bavarians squad this season.

legend and former coach

Zinedine Zidane

, however, believes the Ballon d'Or should go to Real’s French star

Karim Benzema

.

Benzema is in his best football form these days. He was called up to the French national team a few months ago after five and a half years and was his team's top scorer at Euro 2020. The 33-year-old also scored in the semi-final and the final round of the Nations League and played a key role in France’s championship in the European tournament.

“Karim is in a cloud,”

Zidane said in comments carried by

.

“I would give him the Ballon d’Or. He deserves it. He’s an incredible player, and I had the great honour of training him. He knows how to do everything on the pitch. He’s a step above, and I hope he can be rewarded with this Ballon d’Or.”
