The French star has attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs with his good performance in recent seasons.

Sevilla

president Jose Castro has explained why he turned down a €50million bid for defender Jules Kounde.

Kounde was one of the players that attracted lots of attention of several clubs during the summer. First Tottenham and then

Chelsea

tried to sign him. However, Sevilla opposed the offer until the last minute and prevented the French defender from leaving. Now Castro has explained his reasons for rejecting the offer.

“Nobody can escape the fact we are coming out of a pandemic and this year there was no choice but to give a negative financial result,” Castro said.

“There has been no income from season tickets, match tickets or bars. Marketing and television revenues have suffered.

“Even so, with Chelsea’s offer of €50million, the deficit was wiped out. That speaks of the strength of the club.”

Monchi, Sevilla's sporting director, was among those who played a key role in preventing the transfer. More offers for Koundeare expected to be sent to Seville next summer.
