Olivier Giroud joined AC Milan from Chelsea this summer and has scored two goals in his first three games. The 35-year-old striker has been out of action for some time due to Covid-19 and a back injury, but is looking forward to coming back and playing alongside Zlatan.
I’m very proud to play for Milan and in Serie A,”
Giroud told the official channel of Serie A TIM. “
It was the League I watched when I was young
“I’m also very proud because my favourite footballer when I was a teenager was [former Milan star Andriy] Shevchenko. I’m lucky to have this opportunity to play and score for this club like him.
“We play football for these emotions and pass them on to the fans, and that’s why I can’t wait to give everything for the team and for the Milan supporters.”
Giroud's grandmother was Italian and the striker revealed that he loves the country and its food.
“Both my grandmothers were Italian, I’m proud of my origins, I studied the language in school.
“I love this country and of course it’s cuisine. They are a bit behind the French one, but it’s still good. I can’t wait to learn the language better and discover the city better, to tour it with my family.”
Giroud arrived with Mike Maignan and joined his ex-teammate Fikayo Tomori at Milan.
“I spoke to Maignan when I was about to sign for Milan, I think he will become the No. 1 for the French national team when [Hugo] Lloris leaves.
“He’s very talented. I also spoke to Tomori, who told me they were waiting for me to try to win the Scudetto.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on us, but we want to fight for the top spot in the standings.”
Giroud is looking forward to playing alongside
I played against Zlatan a few times,”
“He still plays at 40 and that means he’s an exceptional professional
“He takes care of himself and his body, and I also try to do so to enjoy football as long as my body will allow it.
“I think he’s a great example for the youngsters and he is one of the best strikers in Serie A. I can’t wait to play alongside him and enjoy him in training.
“I think we will have fun and we want to win something with Milan. With Zlatan, it will be easier.”
's honest relationship.
When I spoke to coach Pioli for the first time, it was easy and natural,”
Giroud continued. “
We had a very frank conversation and I like his way of thinking about football
“I followed Milan last year and they had a great season, also thanks to the work of Pioli.”
