Raphael Varane taken off injured during Nations League final

Sun 10 October 2021 | 20:50

Manchester United and France center-back Raphael Varane limped off injured against Spain in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday night.

Varane

winced as he stretched his stride and intercepted a low cross from

Gavi

at the price of a corner five minutes before the break.

It appeared harmless, but the United defender quickly signaled for the bench and asked for treatment.

After being assessed, Varane was then replaced by

Bayern Munich

's

Dayot Upamecano

in the 42nd minute.

Varane's injury will be a huge blow for

Manchester United

and manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

as they have a tough run of games in the upcoming weeks.

The Red Devils will take on

Leicester City

at King Power on Saturday, before facing

Atalanta

in the Champions League.

Then they will have to prepare for two Premier League encounters against

Liverpool

and

Tottenham

.

Club captain

Harry Maguire

is already on the sidelines, and it's uncertain if he will be fit for United's trip to Leicester City on Saturday. If he is unavailable and Varane's injury is bad enough to keep him out, Solskjaer will almost certainly face an unwanted headache.
