The Brazil star admits the upcoming World Cup is his last chance to lift football’s biggest prize.
Neymar has featured in two World Cups for Brazil, where the Selecao’s efforts to win the trophy finished in semi-final and quarter-final eliminations respectively.
The PSG star is set to feature in the upcoming Qatar World Cup, but he is not optimistic about his chances of continuing international football all the way to the 2026 World Cup.
"I think it's my last World Cup,"
Neymar said in
, Neymar & The Line Of Kings.
"I see it as my last because I don't know if I have the strength of mind to deal with football any more.
"So I'll do everything to turn up well, do everything to win with my country, to realise my greatest dream since I was little. And I hope I can do it."
Neymar made his first World Cup appearance in 2014. The then Barcelona star impressed with his performances in the group stage, before getting injured in his side’s quarter-final match against Colombia. Brazil managed to defeat Colombia but suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat against Germany in the semi-finals.
Four years later, Neymar once again spearheaded Brazil’s efforts to win their sixth World Cup trophy. However, the Selecao were eliminated by Belgium in the quarter-finals, marking another World Cup frustration for the PSG star.
Brazil are leading South America’s World Cup qualifying tournament. The Selecao have collected 27 points from their 9 games, being followed by arch-rivals Argentina who have 19 points.
