The former Real Madrid star intends to help South Asians shine in football.
German soccer star Mesut Ozil has claimed that he intends to help British South Asian stars shine in the world of football.
Former Liverpool star Emile Heskey has claimed that as a child in Leicester, he played football with South Asian children and that they had a great passion for football. Although 8% of the British population are South Asians, less than 0.25% of football leagues are from the region. Now Ozil has expressed hope that he intends to help these children be seen in football.
The World Cup winner said:
"I have always been surprised why the South Asian Community are only allowed to be fans of the game,".
"Why are we not seeing more players or managers breaking into professional football? I want to promote them, give them an opportunity to be successful both on and off the pitch.
"I myself am from an ethnically diverse background and understand the challenges. I hope the Football for Peace Mesut Ozil Centre will become the platform they need."
