Gil replaces Llorente in Spain squad for Nations League semi-finals

The Tottenham winger will be part of La Roja's squad for the upcoming international break.

Atletico Madrid announced on Sunday that Marcos Llorente has suffered a thigh injury in their 2-0

win

over Barcelona. The extent of the injury is yet to be announced but the 26-year-old is set to miss Spain’s upcoming game against Italy in the semi-finals of the European Nations League.

Tottenham winger Bryan Gil will replace Llorente in La Roja’s squad, having the chance to make his seventh appearance for the national team.

Gil joined Tottenham on a swap deal that saw Erik Lamela move to Sevilla this summer. The 20-year-old has featured in eight matches for the Spurs since his transfer to the north London side. Having created two chances, the Spain international is yet to score his first goal for Tottenham.

Spain will try to avenge their Euro 2020 elimination when they meet the Azzuri in the semi-finals of the Nations League on Wednesday. Italy are yet to be defeated under the stewardship of Roberto Mancini, hoping to achieve their second trophy of the year by winning the Nations League.
