Diego Simeone comments on last night’s victory over Barcelona

Atletico Madrid boss insists the Barcelona they faced last night were the same as before, but this time without Lionel Messi.

Determined to defend last season’s title,

Atletico Madrid

managed to defeat out of form

Barcelona

2-0 on Saturday night in a La Liga clash in Wanda Metropolitano.

Atletico Madrid boss

Diego Simeone

talked about the victory at a post-match press conference, saying Barca were the same as before but this time without their superstar Lionel Messi.

"It's the first game we played against Barca without Messi.

"Other games there has not been much difference to this one, but now Messi is not there."

There have been many rumors regarding the Blaugrana coach

Ronald Koeman

and his future at the club, with many believe that the 58-year-old will soon be relieved from duty should the poor results continue.

Simeone made a few remarks about his Dutch pair on Friday’s pre-match press conference, saying although he respects Koeman, they are too busy themselves to worry about the affairs of another club.

"He will surely be in an uncomfortable situation and, on our side, I imagine that all of his colleagues respect him as a coach and he will surely always do well,"

Simeone said.

"I am not the one to judge anything. I respect Koeman very much, he has shown personality and I wish him the best. As for the transition, we are very busy with ourselves and we do not worry about what happens at another club. We think about the value of the rival players, Barcelona have great players, a very good coach with a lot of personality and we focus on doing well ourselves, improving ourselves."
