Inaki Williams breaks record for most consecutive La Liga appearances
The Bilbao forward made history in his side’s 1-0 win over Alaves on Friday.
Inaki Williams made his 203rd successive appearance for Athletic Bilbao in their victory against Alaves at San Mames. The Spaniard broke the long-standing record of former Real Sociedad defender Juan Antonio Larranaga, who played for Los Txuri-Urdin between 1980 and 1994. Williams and Larranaga are also the only players that have appeared in over 200 consecutive LaLiga games.
Williams joined Bilbao from Pamplona in 2013 and made his senior debut for the club in 2014. The versatile midfielder started his remarkable sequence of appearances in his side’s 1-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid in April 2016.
Williams has scored two goals for Los Leones this season as they sit sixth in La Liga. The former Basconia forward played his 300th game for Bilbao last month, scoring in his side’s 2-0 victory over Real Mallorca.
