Allegri tips Chiesa to flourish as a centre-forward after Chelsea win

Thu 30 September 2021 | 8:41

The Italy international scored the only goal of the game right after the half-time break to give Juve the crucial three points.

A 46th-minute goal from Federico Chiesa secured

Bianconeri a 1-0 Champions League victory on Wednesday.

While the Italian was undoubtedly the man of the match,

Max Allegri

 insists

Federico Chiesa

‘is nowhere near at 100 percent’ as he turns 24 next month and was a key figure in Italy’s UEFA EURO 2020 triumph over the summer.

Allegri

told his post-match conference:

“He is absolutely not at 100 per cent and this was the first real time he has played as a centre-forward. I told Federico my evaluation, which is that he can play as a centre-forward or a support striker.”

As a winger, Chiesa found the net 14 times with 10 assists in 43 competitive matches for Juventus last season.

Chiesa told Amazon Prime Italia post-match

: “It was a hard-fought performance, because Chelsea pinned us back and did really well in possession, but this evening we showed what the Juve spirit is all about, the spirit that the coach asks for.

“We started out with a system, then the coach changed so we could attack the space, where Chelsea were struggling this evening, and we did well to punish them.”

“It’s a huge challenge, it’s wonderful to play in this competition. Now we enjoy this victory, but then there’s another very important game coming up on Saturday.”
