The Villarreal coach believes respecting the opposing team should not be confused with fear.

Villarreal

are set to face

Manchester United

in their second group stage match of the 2022 Champions League on Wednesday.

The Yellows, who won their first Europa League title in 2021 after defeating the Red Devils in the penalty shootouts, will face Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men four days after their morale-boosting draw with Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabéu.

Manchester, however, are not in good condition especially after two consecutive losses against West Ham and Aston Villa.

Having recruited Raphael Varane, Jadon and the Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the Red Devils are stepping into the game with a full hand, however, Villarreal boss Unai Emery insists they are not afraid of the star-packed United.

At pre-match press conference, Emery said:

“I am not afraid of Manchester United.

“We respect them. Respect is important. If you lose it, you may end up losing.

“United are the favorite, but they were also the favorite in the Europa League.

“They lost against Young Boys. It was the favorite against the least favorite, but there was a surprise.

“There are always circumstances on the pitch that can equal the team. Football is very competitive.”
