Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea admits his side can have ‘no excuses' for their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team missed the chance to move to the top of the Premier League table after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of

Aston Villa

The game was heading toward a goalless draw, but

Kortney Hause

’s 88th-minute header sealed a dramatic victory for the Villa.

United had the chance to leave the game at least with one point from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but

Bruno Fernandes

failed to convert his penalty.

After the game, the Red Devils’ goalkeeper

David de Gea

said there is no time for excuses despite suggesting Aston Villa’s goal could have been disallowed due to an offside.

"It's a very disappointing day for us,"

De Gea

"But I think there are no excuses today.

"We were playing at home with confidence and if we want to win big trophies like the Premier League, we need to win these types of games."

"We conceded from a set-piece and I saw the replay and probably it's offside. [Watkins] was very close to me. Again that happens,"

he said

"It's a hard one to take. Now we have to be ready for the next one."
