James Rodriguez in negotiations with Qatari club

The Everton midfielder is yet to play a game since the arrival of Rafa Benitez as the Toffees’ new manager.

James Rodriguez was heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park during the summer transfer window. However, potential

moves

to Porto and Istanbul Basaksehir fell through, with the former Real Madrid star entering the second year of his contract.

A regular starter under former coach Carlo Ancelotti, the Columbia international has fallen out of favor since the arrival of Rafa Benitez earlier this summer. With the Qatari transfer window being open until September 30, James is now linked with an escape move to a Qatar Stars League side.

An agreement with the Qatari club is yet to be reached, but James was seen in Manchester Airport on Sunday evening. Benitez is reportedly keen to offload the Columbian’s weekly wages of £200,000 as he plans to add new players in the winter transfer window.

Having arrived on a free transfer in September 2020, James featured in 23 league matches for the Toffees last season. The 30-year-old scored 6 goals and provided 5 assists as Ancelotti’s side finished tenth in the Premier League.
