L’Equipe reveals details of Messi’s bumper contract at PSG

After an exceptional career at Barcelona, the 6-time Ballon d’Or winner controversially joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent this summer. Now, details of his lucrative deal with the Parisians have been exposed.

According to 

L’Equipe

, Messi’s three-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain will be worth around €110million if the Argentine completes three years at the Ligue 1 club.

Messi currently has a two-year deal with Mauricio Pochettino’s side with the option of a third year.

The French outlet reports Messi’s deal includes €30million worth of earnings in his first year with €40million due in years two and year three if the option becomes activated.

 

Before 

deciding to join PSG

, the Argentine superstar did agree on a new contract with Barcelona. However, due to Blaugrana’s financial issues, the club couldn’t afford the deal.

 said: 

"The truth is that I can't think of anything. This is really difficult for me."

"Being here my entire life, I'm not ready for this change.

“Last year I was convinced that I wanted to leave, but this year we were sure we wanted to stay here.

"Today I have to say goodbye to all this, I've been here for 21 years, to our home. I'm grateful for every one of my former teammates and the club members. I thank them for all the beautiful experiences here,

"I'm so grateful for the respect that people showed me, I could never imagine it going this way,

"I leave this club without seeing the fans for more than a year. It's sad to not be able to able to say goodbye to fans at the Stadium.

"I hope I can come back to this club one day, and help them in any way I can."
