It’s a shame to go against Barcelona without Messi - Muller

Sun 12 September 2021 | 10:15

The Germany international thinks ‘it’s a shame’ that his side will go against a Blaugrana that does not have Lionel Messi anymore.

The Champions League football will begin next week, with

Barcelona

and

Bayern Munich

locking horns at Camp Nou in the first week.

The two parties will face off on Tuesday but there is no high expectation around Ronald Koeman’s side, which is due to

Lionel Messi

’s departure this summer. Antoine Griezmann’s leave has also put Barcelona in a difficult spot.

Before Tuesday’s clash,

Thomas Muller

revealed that he is careful as he goes against the unfamiliar team with his side, even if it means he missed a chance to face Messi.

“In general, it’s a shame that he is not there. When you play against a team that has Leo Messi, it’s something that gives additional motivation to everyone because we know what he has achieved,”

he said, as cited by

Mundo Deportivo

.

“I have to admit that, actually, I cannot assess Barcelona. Without doubt, without Messi, they will be a different team.

“It’s possible that without Messi they will have a player with more defensive contributions.

“I don’t know what awaits us. In any case, it’s a marvellous stadium and a great club.”

Both sides are trying to be better in the Champions League in the 2021-22 season as they have been eliminated at the hands of PSG last season.

Barca were defeated by PSG in the Round of 16, whereas Bayern Munich were beaten by the Ligue 1 side in the quarter-finals.
