Dest forced out of USMNT’s World Cup qualifier with injury

The Barcelona defender suffered an ankle injury in the first half of USMNT’s draw against Canada.

U.S. men's national team were held to a 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualifier against Canada on Sunday.

Sergino Dest

was forced off the pitch following an injury in the 44th minute, which saw the Barcelona star being replaced by Galatasaray’s DeAndre Yedlin.

In a post-match interview, USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter confirmed that Dest has suffered an ankle injury.

"Segino has an ankle sprain,"

Berhalter said.

"We're going to have to find out if he'll be available on Wednesday, but that's his status."

Dest’s fitness status remains unclear ahead of USMNT’s next World Cup qualifying game against Honduras. In addition to the former Ajax star,

are also set to miss the upcoming game.

Dest might also miss out on Barcelona’s next league game against Sevilla on Saturday, with Sergi Roberto being the only replacement available at Camp Nou.
