Switzerland held Italy to a precious 0-0 draw in a World Cup 2020 Group C clash.

Jorginho had his penalty stopped by Yann Sommer

and Domenico Berardi and Ciro Immobile lost many great chances to find the back of the net when Italy were held to a goalless draw against Switzerland in the World Cup qualifier, but they kept their record of 36 unbeaten games, which marks a new world record.

The Swiss side was defeated 3-0 by the same side in their Euro 2020 clash in June

, and their boss, Yakin, had plenty of positive to take from the match, especially with missing Granit Xhaka for COVID-19 diagnosis, Xherdan Shaqiri, Mario Gavranovic, Breel Embolo, and Eray Cömert injured, and Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler suspended.

We played as a real team tonight and with great solidity against a strong opponent,”

 said

Yakin post match.

“Every player pushed himself beyond his limits. We didn’t start very well, but as the evening progressed, we were able to get more control of the game in the second half.

“At the end of the day, we pick up an important point that should boost our confidence. It’ll be a different match against Northern Ireland, not much time to recover, but we have the energy.”

Switzerland will next face Northern Ireland on Wednesday

as they try to push their 4-point gap with Group C leaders Italy. They have two games in their hands compared to their rivals.
